Military Missions
Lynn Wilkerson is our closest attachment to this ministry as she meets with them regularly, but we are all connected as we know those like Paul and others who serve our country. The ministry was recently interviewed by the Herald Leader and received recognition for delivering Christmas gifts to soldiers and their families. There are several families in our community that are active in this valuable support ministry.

Strengthen your relationships by bowling together
The secret lies in knowing the players. Studies show that if women know the history of the players, they will be more interested in the challenges of the game. Women, it is your duty to study the lives of the two quarterbacks that will be attempting to lead their teams to a National Championship. It is your key to understanding us.
I was talking with Tatesbrook's closet NCAA football fanatic, Robin Potter, who has been watching the story lines of Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy all year long. She started by just watching Florida and Texas, but now she can't pull herself away from the TV on Saturdays because of the men in uniform who share her Lord and Savior.
FCA's magazine, "Sharing The Victory" has published an article to help you all prepare for the upcoming season. Click on the picture to be prepared for a great bowl season.

WE ARE HOME
We are most grateful for the prayers and the interest in our travel over the last two weeks. We have much to share and many pictures to see. We are both tired but glad to be home in our on bed. The Lord protected us from sickness, injury, and bodily harm while out of the country. We both once reaching the states have incurred certain ailments but nothing really serious.
We love you all and look forward in seeing you and sharing with you our experiences in Tanzania.
Michael and Joe Joe really miss everyone here and need our prayers as they leave this weekend for Nairobi Kenya to prepare for the birth of Sawyer Timothy "Mzumbe' Harrington.
Merry Christmas!!

Mike and Lisa on their way back
I noted on Virgin Atlantic's website this am that Mike and Lisa left Nairobi at about 2AM EST and is scheduled to arrive in London at about 11AM EST today (Monday). Be in prayer for their safety, arrival of intact luggage, help with their luggage, and smooth transition from plane to hotel.
As you pray for Mike and Lisa's safe return, please also pray for Michael and Joe Joe and Mike and Cindy as they celebrate Christ's birth with child away from home. As is the case with every year, 2009 looks to be a very blessed year for our extended body.

Traveling to Morogoro
Kelley should have all the insurance taken care of before they get back, but Mike and Lisa are expanding their options.
In addition to lower insurance premiums, this Nissan has more cargo space than a Prius.
SHORTENED EMAIL FROM MIKE:
Greetings!
We are doing great. It is really hot here. Conference went great. Super kids with a passion for Jesus. Miss all of you and pray you have a meaningful Christmas.
Joe Joe said Hi and MicHAEL said nothing. Love you all

L.E.A.D.S Ministry in India
We were also very blessed to hear from Reverand Sudnyan Bansod who was here visiting with his daughter who attends Living Hope Fellowship just around the corner from Tatesbrook.
Chris Reiber, the pastor at Living Hope Fellowship, has set up a non-profit group called L.E.A.D.S Outreach USA to help support the ministry that Shutee shared about on Sunday. Click on the following link to learn more: Ministry in India

Safely in Tanzania
Good news! I got a note from Michael that our weary travelers have arrived safely in Tanzania, and it looks like all luggage made it there safely as well! (Including the chocolate bombs!) Thanks for your continued prayers for their ministry over the next week or so. I'll keep you posted on how things are going as I receive more updates.
Blessings!

Mike and Lisa made it to London
I just wanted to give you this update:
I talked with Mike Brady by phone around noon today (Thursday). They were safely in London (where it was 6pm local time), experiencing a layover awaiting their flight to Kenya, and then on to Tanzania. They were doing well, obviously a little shagged out from the trip, but holding up well.
One thing to pray for....Mike was concerned about some possible changes being made to their flight schedules, and how that might affect their arrival time in Tanzania, and their scheduled meeting for pick up with Michael and Joe Joe. At first one flight was cancelled and they were resceduled for a much later time than discussed with the Harringtons, but now it looks like the original flight is back on, so they are back on schedule. Anyway, he's concerned he won't be able to communicate with the Harringtons if things do indeed change. So, pray that all stays on schedule, as is currently the case.
Also, one funny story:
Mike was pulled out of line by security while checking in at the Louisville airport...his bag was searched because, according to the security officer: "These things always look more suspicious on the screen than when we open them up."
"These things" being referred to? Mike had picked up a handful of "Nutrageous" candy bars that Michael loves in the snack shop. He bundled them up and placed them in his bag, and on the security screen they looked like a bomb with wires wrapped around them!
So, please pray for "Mike the Candy Bar Unibomber" that he will be able to better conceal his highly sophisticated "weapons of mass consumption."
Thanks for all your prayers and support for this mission endeavor!
Blessings!

Continuous prayer for Mike and Lisa
Mike and Lisa will be leaving for Tanzania on December 10th and returning on December 24th. The Lord has called upon our body to pray and fast for them. There will be a sign-up sheet to help in covering them with prayer for each hour of their trip available this Sunday and next Sunday. You can sign-up for as much as you like. It will be there this Sunday and next. Also, you can contact Tony Jones at 285-8501 or text him with times you prefer. The important thing is that we pray/fast. Our body knows the power of prayer and it is in His power we want to cover Mike and Lisa and the ministry God will do in Tanzania. We want to have every hour covered by someone praying/fasting for this trip. We are expecting great things to happen. Everyone can pray and/or fast. Fasting doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to give up a meal(s) for a day or the duration of the time they are gone. It could mean simply giving up something to pray for them (meal, Dr. Pepper, UK basketball, computer time, etc.). Just take it to the Lord.

African Missions Fasting Challenge
Fasting can come in many forms. Part of it is a sacrifice, part of it is overcoming the flesh, part of it is just a reminder to pray with a purpose. Knowing Michael's struggles to find as bountiful supply of Dr. Pepper as is available in the United States, I would like to suggest that every time we see a Dr. Pepper commercial or reach for a Dr. Pepper, we pray for those in Africa in December. If God leads you to drink a different beverage as a matter of sacrifice, those 23 flavors will still be there in January. This may be a bigger sacrifice for some us than it is for others.

Men's Retreat 2008
Passing the torch was discussed, acknowledged, recognized and encouraged.
Gary Wilson taught us that we, by ourselves, are too smart and that sharing the gospel was simple and merely and act of obedience in unfailing love. Tatesbrook is blessed with smart people.
And of course, what retreat would be complete without an ultimate frisbee game and a 40 yard dash. Letting go of a torch can be hard.

PASSING THE TORCH
Blessings to the Brook. We have exciting days ahead. The Lord is showing us that unity, desire to grow, prayer, and loving one another are the keys to a church moving forward. I have great admiration for the folks at Tatesbrook. The leadership of this church has proven themselves over the years of lean and plenty. Those families who have perservered have shown me an unselfishness in service, a love with no conditions, and a faith in our Lord that does not allow circumstances to get in the way. Like me, they realize that the greatest part of leadership is not holding on to what God has given us, but allow it to flow through us to others.
We are at a place in Tatesbrook life where this is becoming a reality. These fathers and mothers are now realizing a need to pass the torch to the young men and young women. It doesn't mean that we are being put on a shelf. What it means is, we will take a new role in overseeing, encouraging, and discipling those who are being raised up to take the torch of leadership. It is a new day at Tatesbrook and as pastor I believe it is a time of great prosperity and growth.
Some examples of change that are already taking place is with our praise and worship, and with the youth. Tony and Michelle Jones have led our praise and worship for over 12 years. They began at a time when we were at our lowest as a church. The thing that Tony and Michelle did was lead our church in the understanding between a Sunday morning song service and praise and worship. They taught us that praise led one to worship and that the focus was not a performance of musicians and singers, but that the focus was the heart of God. They both were and still are a blessing to us, and will continue to be an example taking our hearts and meshing them with the Father's heart through worship. They are passing this torch to Kent Billingsly. Kent will be in charge of Sunday morning worship. Kent exemplifies that same heart toward God and knows how to lead us into the throne room. I want to encourage all to support him through prayer and participation in worship. Tony and Michelle will continue to oversee this area as well as offer a broadening of worship through dance, media, and teaching.
Another example of change is our youth. Our church has been blessed with youth ministers. I believe I counted over 15 people in our church who have worked in church life as a youth minister. Matt and Kim Hind have carried this torch for the last several years as did John Rice and Gadis and Kelley Thomas before them. Matt and Kim have loved our youth, planned for our youth, counseled our youth, and provided support for our youth. Their hearts have been hearts of parents to our youth over the years. They are now passing that torch to Josh Covington. Josh has a heart for youth, and like those before knows the vision of our body. He has heard God's call to lead our youth through love, teaching, and support. Matt, Kim, Kelley, and Kim Foster will continue to encourage Josh and our youth in the days ahead.
What other changes are in store? One is to set apart another brother or two as elders. We also are wanting to disciple others in the area of administration to one day pass the torch of Treasure and Financial Secretary. Kevin Eby and Cindy Faulkner have carried these torches for many years. These are behind the scene type roles that takes many hours per week and takes persons of tremendous integrity and confidentiality. They too, will continue to oversee and encourage anyone who feels called to pick up these torches.
God is leading us to grow in maturity. I am blessed as your pastor, and look forward to train other men who one day I too can pass my torch as pastor. May each of us look deep within and see what torch, if any, we are responsible for, and begin to pray for the harvest. The rest of us need to asking what torch He desires us to take so His kingdom will grow. Join me in praising our Father for his faithfulness and what He has in store for the Church at Tatesbrook. I love everyone of you.

Women's Night Out!
After talking with several women in the church, I realized there was a need for fellowship between the women of Tatesbrook without the kids, husbands, stresses in life, etc...
So the best thing to do is go out for dessert (or coffee, appetizers or just conversation)! We will be meeting once every other week at around 8-8:30 (after kids are settled and husbands are taken care of). If you are interested, please email me so we can work out a definite time, day and place for the first week. I will notify everyone on the list the week of Women's Night Out to let you know about location. We will keep the day and time the same as soon as we decide on that. My email address is: emilyrcheatham@gmail.com if you do not have access to a computer you can call me at: 327-7724. This will be a great time to get to know one another and form some supportive relationships. I know I need it and I am very excited and looking forward to it!
Much Love,

EXPERIENCING THE FULLNESS OF HIS SON
Greetings Church Family,
Lisa and I are away for some relaxation and ministry for the next two weeks. We are on our way to St. Augustine Florida where I will conduct a wedding for a long time friend's daughter on Saturday. While in Florida, we are spending two nights with Bro. Peter and Johnnie Lord who live in Titusville. They will be coming to the Brook the last part of August, so I ask that you pray for them and also the time Lisa and I get to spend with them this week.
Over the last 16 years, I have encouraged our body to make disciples through mentoring and being mentored. Peter and Johnnie have been that for Lisa and me since 1983. Although we did not get to see them on a weekly basis, we stayed in touch with them through letters, phone calls and occasionally having the opportunity to go to pastor conferences at Peter's church, or plan a vacation to Titusville. They have loved us as their own children, and we have held them in our hearts as spiritual parents. We both feel very blessed to know them, and submit to their teachings.
We also feel blessed in having you as our support through body life, and to observe how the Father is molding us into the fullness of His Son. Here is an example of how I see Him at work in you. This past Sunday, while most pastors carry out a message uninterrupted, I hear a sister (Abigail) follow up on Dr. Tim's reply to how God is so faithful and good to us. I then observe Kevin rhetorically stating the truth that has been spoken by Abigail. I hear my daughter Amanda, and in agreement her husband Brent, praise the Father for being their provider through one income, and providing repair of their home's air conditioner for $2.00. Later, a sister (Jerri) expresses a need for input to a very important life situation she is experiencing. It is met with healing words of empathy and compassion from Donna Marie. After the service I notice Kim Foster, Joje, and Donna Marie ministering to Jerri through prayer. On Monday night I hear a young dad state to an older dad that he hopes that his son will grow up to be like the older dad's son. I witness men laying their hearts before the Father on behalf of others in our body through intercessory prayer. I hear the Word of God confessed as truth that will take away the pangs of sin and death form the lips of these men.
Church, that is being the church. That is mentoring and discipleship in the most natural state. That is living out the Christ who lives in you. That is being one with Him and with each other.
I could use just about everyone in our body as an example, but that was only part of two days of my observing you. I am confident that it is a daily thing among our body, and if it isn't, I pray that we will see it happen!
As the summer winds down and we begin to experience body life more fully, let us not forget to appreciate what He is doing in our midst, and let us not miss the opportunity to speak out to each other how blessed we are to have each other as a part of His body. I am excited about the changes He is making in our lives and I have great expectations in the coming months how He is going to stretch us and mold us even deeper into the fullness of His Son. I love you and appreciate you. As my mentor of 25 years often says, "I am blessed, and very much so!"
Bro. Mike

BACKYARD BIBLE CLUB 08
What a great time we had sharing the message of Jesus Christ with boys and girls in Brenda's "Backyard". Thanks to all the workers who helped this week. We had 16 workers from our body who helped in the effort, and more than 20 neighborhood kids and a few of our own who were touched by their efforts. A special thanks goes to Brenda Jones for opening her home and getting the area prepared for us to minister to the children. Robin Potter was such a blessing with the guitar, as was all the others who helped with crafts, refreshments, stories, and recreation. We are planning a follow up with these children later this summer so if you missed out on helping this week, you can get another chance later on.
I know a lot of you were disappointed that we did not have a VBS this summer. I hope that next year we can do so, but I believe with God calling us to win our community, we must continue to do BYBC's as well. We met many unchurched people this week, and I trust that we made an impact on their lives that will cause them to desire Jesus.

Many centuries later, another multitude was gathered on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem for the Shavuot (Pentecost) feast. The message of the New Covenant, first promised by the Jewish prophets, would now find its voice once again among those whom Messiah called His friends:
Next to the gospel accounts of the Resurrection, I think the story of the birth of Messiah's Bride on Shavuot is my favorite passage of Scripture. Pictures of God’s amazing power flash in my mind as the Church drew her first Holy Spirit breath and proclaimed her birth with boldness. The opening strains of God’s symphony of Good News fell first on the ears of His chosen people. They had come from all over the world to be present in Jerusalem for the harvest celebration.
Returning to their homes among the Nations, these new Jewish believers would testify as to what they had seen and heard in their own language on that day of new beginnings… to the Jew first and also to the Greek. They turned the world right-side up in just a few decades.
Seated by His Father’s side, our anxious Bridegroom is watching and counting down to the appointed day when He will return and take His beloved back to the place He has been preparing for over two thousand years.

I want to encourage you concerning your calling. Please set aside your preconceived notions about church and its structure. I have pastored for over thirty years, and one thing I have learned is, " I DON'T TELL STRANGERS THAT I AM A PASTOR!" I am not ashamed of my specific calling, but I know that today's church has established a pecking order within its ranks that is unbiblical and confusing. So, for this writing, I want you to lay aside your knowledge of "church" and let Holy Spirit bless you with His encouragement.
When you received Jesus into your life as Savior and Lord, a marvelous transition took place. Actually it was a creation that took place. You became a part of a brand new species called the children of God. That is why the word states that you are a "joint-heir" with Jesus. He is your elder brother. As He entered your life, he birthed His Spirit in your dead spirit and you become one with Him. It was an eternal act that cannot be undone. No one can separate you from such a love (Romans 8). Not only did He save you from sin, but He also saved you from the law, yourself, the world, and Satan. You are free as free can be! Now you can sit in the clouds, flap your angel wings and play your harp on the front porch of your pimped out mansion for eternity!!!! Sounds kind of boring doesn't it? Well, that is not how it goes except in the minds of American Christians who believe that the primary reason they are saved is to go to heaven and miss hell.
You have been set free for the purpose of knowing the Father as the Son knows the Father. You have been called to know Him intimately. Sounds boring? scary? impossible? Not if you understand the purpose of this calling. Let me give you an earthly example of how your calling is to be lived out. The one person on this earth that I know better than anyone else is my wife Lisa. The reason I know her or want to know her is because she is my wife. I am "called" her husband. She is "called" my wife. We chose each other, because we desired to know each other. When I first met her, I had known about her because she was the sister of one of my high school buddies. (at the time Lisa was 10 years old and playing with dolls) Later, when we began to date, I fell for her. I courted her and not long after that we were at the altar getting married. I had seen her with my eyes, but now I began to see her with my heart. I became committed to her by a vow that we made to each other and to the Father to become husband and wife. We became one with each other, and our love and admiration for each other has grown over the 32 years we have been married. We know each other! My calling as her husband is developed and fulfilled by me resting in the love that I have for her and she has for me. I would not think twice to lay my life down for her, nor her for me. I rest in the fact that I am her priest, provider and protector. It comes natural. I work, and I return to her. I have a place with her. We discuss our lives, our hopes, our dreams. We are in agreement on those things that our pertinent to our existence as husband and wife. We will remain that way until death parts us. That is our calling as a husband and wife.
Now, how about our calling as a believer. Same principle as above. (God actually gave us marriage so we could understand His heart and desire for us and ours for Him) You knew about Him, but one day you fell for Him. You saw Jesus with your heart and knew that you needed Him. He is called your husband, and He has chosen you and called you His bride. Your calling from Him is not based upon your performance of duty of good deeds, but is is based upon you resting in the love He has for you and you have for Him. Your calling? Don't make it an "it" but live it through "Him".
If we all will see Him as He is, love Him as He desires to be loved, then our purpose in life will produce His fullness through our body.

TBNA Ice Cream Social
The TBNA will be providing more details about the ice cream and some special appearances from the city fire department and/or police department, but the church is in charge of games and some shelter for the hot sun for the ice cream.
So, Mike, dig out the rules for the running amoeba and we'll combine that with a little ultimate frisbee and basketball. If anyone has a small canopy for the ice cream and the servers, please contact Kevin.
This is a great opportunity for fun and fellowship with the community.

This was the feast that Jesus shared with His disciples that we call the Last Supper and it was in this Passover meal that He gave us the rite of communion. During the meal Jesus took the “middle matzoh” that was unleavened, striped and pierced, and He broke it saying to us that it represented His body which was broken for us (Luke 22:19). This body was given that our old self might be crucified and that we could be reconciled to God (Rom 5:10, Col 1:22). Then after the meal Christ took the third cup called the “Cup of Redemption” and said this is my blood (Luke 22:20). This blood was shed for the total forgiveness of our sins. That night Jesus was taken and the next morning, Passover day, He was sacrificed.
Jesus was our Passover Lamb (1 Cor 5:6-7) and He fulfilled the feast of Passover on the actual day of the feast. Passover was a type or a picture of the final deliverance God had promised for the people of Israel and indeed for the whole world when He would offer His Son as the ultimate sacrifice. Each person need only apply the Blood of this Lamb to the doorposts of his their hearts and they will be delivered from bondage to sin and spiritual death.
Rejoice dear saint that the final sacrifice has been made and that you are now completely free from sin and death. Celebrate our Passover and walk in the truth.
Check out this video explaining the matzoh by Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum.

Moses Hudson!
I love this picture because it has Brady's walking stick in it. Less than 5 min from when this picture is taken Paul Barth will snatch this walking stick (which Brady was quite fond of) and through it over the cliff side! It was hilarious!

Expelled
WHAT: His heroic and, at times, shocking journey confronting the world’s top scientists, educators and philosophers, regarding the persecution of the many by an elite few.
WHEN: Coming to a theater near you on April 18, 2008
Ben travels the world on his quest, and learns an awe-inspiring truth…that bewilders him, then angers him…and then spurs him to action!
WHY: Ben realizes that he has been “Expelled,” and that educators and scientists are being ridiculed, denied tenure and even fired – for the “crime” of merely believing that there might be evidence of “design” in nature, and that perhaps life is not just the result of accidental, random chance.
To which Ben Says: "Enough!" And then gets busy. NOBODY messes with Ben.

Study Guide
There are many different facets of the Kingdom of God and the one that we currently live in is called the Mystery Kingdom. Ooooh, sounds…mysterious, right? Well, the term mystery is used in the New Testament not for things mysterious as we define the word but rather for 8 different concepts that were completely new. These 8 were not mentioned in the Old Testament scriptures but were hidden since the foundation of the world (Matt 13:35). They have now been revealed to the saints for our glory (Rom 16:25-26, 1 Cor 2:7, Eph 3:4-5, Eph 3:8-9, Col 1:26).
This kingdom is not exactly equivalent with the Church age but it does include it. It began when Jesus was rejected by the Jews (Matt 12-13), will continue through the church age, and will end when Jesus returns after the tribulation when Israel accepts His Messiahship (Matt 23:37-39; 24:1-25:46). After Jesus was rejected He began to speak heavily in parables. This was to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah 6:9-10 (Matt 13:11-17) and Psalm 78:2 (Matt 13:34-35). Jesus states that the mysteries were not given for those who do not believe but for those who do. He therefore describes the mysteries of the kingdom in parables but he took the time to explain them all to His disciples (although not all explanations are recorded in scripture Mark 4:34).
The Parables of the Mystery Kingdom
Jesus uses nine parables to describe the mysteries of the kingdom. They are found in Matthew 13, Mark 4 and Luke 8. According to Mark 4:13, understanding the first parable helps us understand the remaining parables. This would possibly imply similar symbols.
1) The Parable of the Sower: Matthew 13:2-23; Mark 4:1-20; Luke 8:4-15
a. The Mystery Kingdom will involve the sowing of seed or preaching of the gospel
b. The sowing of the gospel will be opposed by the world, the flesh and the devil.
c. There will be different soils indicating that some people, cultures and world locations will be more receptive to the gospel.
d. There will be four different responses to the gospel. The first and the last responses are straight forward. The first is no response to the gospel (Matt 13:19). This may be unbelief or just lack of understanding. The last is acceptance of the gospel and a life fruitful in the Spirit (Matt 13:23). The salvation of these responses is clear however the salvation of the middle two responses is debatable. Either way the response is similar. The second response to the gospel is an emotional response (Matt 13:21). If this response involves salvation then this person’s faith will be based on their emotions and experience. They will not be grounded in the word of God and will be blown every way by circumstance, good sounding music or ear tickling preaching. If this response does not involve salvation the person will walk away from their emotional response to the gospel as soon as times get difficult. The third response is a worldly response (Matt 13:22). If this response involves salvation then the person maybe theologically sound but will have difficulty living a consistent Christian lifestyle due to worldly cares. If this response does not involve salvation then this person is one who has heard and understands the gospel but will not make a decision due to worldly concerns. This could be a family, status, or fear issue. This section maybe similar to 1 Cor 2:6-3:3
2) The Parable of the Seed’s Growth: Mark 4:26-29
a. The seed of the Gospel will grow on its own. The sower does not cause the growth of the seed. All he does is sow it. It is God who causes the growth (1 Cor 3:7).
3) The Parable of the Tares: Matthew 13:24-30
a. This parable is explained in Matthew 13:36-43
b. In the Kingdom there will be a false sowing. That is, there are false believers; people who claim to believers but are of the evil one, sent to undermine the kingdom of God.
c. God permits these people to remain because uprooting them would injure the believers
d. A judgment at the end of the mystery kingdom will separate the two. This judgment may be included in the judgment of the Sheep and the Goats (Matt 25:31-46). By that time the Church will have been raptured (Rev 3-4, Lev 23, 1 Thess 5:1-11) to the “barn” but many who became Saints during the Tribulation will be included.
e. The two plants can be identified by their fruit. The wheat will produce grain. The tares just consume resources and produce no fruit.
4) The Parable of the Mustard Seed: Matthew 13:31-32, Mark 4:30-32
a. The mystery kingdom will grow very large
b. The mystery kingdom will have many divisions, denominations or large branches.
c. Birds will come and sit on those branches. In the first parable the birds were agents of the enemy. We can conclude that in the kingdom there will be false believers as well as cultic groups that claim to be Christian but change the gospel or deny Jesus’ deity. Two perfect examples are Mormon and Jehovah’s Witnesses.
d. In the parable the birds are in the tree but not of the tree.
5) The Parable of the Leaven: Matthew 13:33
a. In scripture when a woman is used symbolically, she often represents a spiritual or religious body (Gal 4:21-31, Rev 2:20, Rev 17:1-8). Here she represents a false religion.
b. Leaven represents sin in scripture (1 Cor 5:6-8). Most likely the sin of false teaching (Matt 16:6). This parable tells that the kingdom will be affected by sin, especially false teaching. This will grow to a point where it will affect the entire kingdom. We know from other scripture that towards the end there will be an increase in sin, false teachers and false prophets and the people will turn from sound doctrine to that which tickles the ear. It will eventually lead to an apostate “church” that professes with their mouth but does not believe (Rev 3:14-22).
6) The Parable of the Hidden Treasure: Matthew 13:44
a. The Old Testament often refers to Israel as God’s possession (also translated as special treasure. Ex 19:5; Deut 14:2; Ps 135:4). In this parable Israel is represented as treasure and it shows us that although the Jews rejected Jesus as a nation there was a remnant of Jews who did believe. The treasure is that remnant of Israel (Rom 11:5, Gal 6:16).
7) The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price: Matthew 13:45-46
a. Scripture does not reveal the exact identity of the Pearl when used symbolically. However, since the scriptures identify the treasure as Israel it may be safe for us to assume that the Pearl represents all those not Israel (ie the Gentiles). This is further supported by the use of the sea and things from the sea as a symbol of Gentiles (Dan 7:2-3; Rev 17:1, 15).
b. Gentiles as well will be a treasure to God, his possession and people.
8) The Parable of the Dragnet: Matthew 13:47-50
a. This is similar to the parable of the tares and the pearl of great price.
b. Again the sea represents the gentile nations.
c. The mystery kingdom will end in judgment. The righteous will be brought into the next kingdom, the Messianic Kingdom, and the wicked will be thrown into fire. This may be the judgment of the gentile in Matthew 25:31-46. Once again the Church will not be present.
9) The Parable of the Householder: Matthew 13:51-52
a. The Mystery kingdom was to include brand new aspects.
