RSVP for Church Campout extended to August 15

Matt and Kim decided to extend the RSVP until Sunday, August 15. Please see the correction below, Kim had mistakenly requested the previous RSVP by August 9th.

Here are the details on David Ravenhill's time in Lexington (July 10th-12th).

David Ravenhill will be teaching:

• Saturday evening at 6:30pm
• Sunday evening at 6:30pm
• Monday evening at 7:00pm

All meetings will be held at Park United Methodist Church:

After the meeting on Saturday, light refreshments will be provided in the fellowship hall of Park Methodist Church so all the churches will have an opportunity to spend some time together.

Men's Retreat Video 2009

We didn't get any group pictures this year because of the rain on Sunday, but we did collect a few photographs from Saturday afternoon while we rested and recreated between sessions.

The teaching from Ephesians led by Billy Henderson was surrounding the mystery of community. I can think of no better artist to describe our weekend in song than Michael Card.

Men's Retreat 2009

We have reserved Wesley Woods from Friday afternoon until Sunday at noon again this year. Please come join us for a great weekend of fellowship, teaching and relaxation.

The weather looks like highs of 75 and lows of 60 so dress for fall. The teens may still dump each other in the lake, but I doubt that any of the adults will be trying to cool off.

Here is what you will need for the trip:

• Pillow, Sleeping bag ( There are a few flat areas of ground for tents if you would like, but there are plenty of bunk beds in the lodge )
• Bible, Notebook, Pens
• Snacks
• Low energy games ( cornhole, ladder, bocce ball, cards )
• Soap, Shampoo, Tooth Brush, other personal items ( Showers are available at the camp )

Church Growth

Our body is growing fast.. just three weeks ago, there were only 23 people in the church picture. This week, there were 25. By my calculations, we should have 433 people in the picture next July.

Michael, Joe Joe and Sawyer came the farthest.

Church Picnic

We will be having a church picnic this Sunday. We took the church picture at the last picnic, but if there is enough interest we might be able to take another one that includes Michael, Joe Joe and Sawyer. Since the Hind's will be camping, we will need a volunteer to substitute as the church photographer.

Vacation Bible School

Our goal for Tuesday was to double the number of VBS kids from Monday. I think there were 50% more. If we can get 50% more again tonight and Thursday and Friday we will have a God sized problem to deal with.

Men's Retreat 2008

There were many aspects of this retreat that any given man or boy would enjoy. In contrast to last year, there were no injuries that I know of. Not that Travis and Jacob didn't try to injure someoone with axes and fire and accelerants and boats and sticks and hooks. Adam provoked one adult to place Adam in a scenario with lots of potential energy if friction failed, but it didn't.

Passing the torch was discussed, acknowledged, recognized and encouraged.

Gary Wilson taught us that we, by ourselves, are too smart and that sharing the gospel was simple and merely and act of obedience in unfailing love. Tatesbrook is blessed with smart people.

And of course, what retreat would be complete without an ultimate frisbee game and a 40 yard dash. Letting go of a torch can be hard.

B.A.S.I.C. Leadership Camp 2008

Brady Hudson and a small group of youth recently returned from Bob's. They will be sharing a few testimonies and teachings with all of us in a few weeks, but here are the "best of the best" of the 1400 pictures that were given to everyone that attended.

TBNA Ice Cream Social

Although the morning started out with rain, there was still time to set things up before the Ice Cream Social and enjoy a glorious day with all the groups that were able to attend. In addition to the people from the community, the TBNA had also invited the fire department and a finger printing unit from the police department.

The kids enjoyed chalk drawing, bubble making, ice cream, whiffle ball and ultimate frisbee. Many of the teens and adults played volleyball and the rest of the adults tried to stay out of the sun that eventually beat down on those manning the various booths. Here are some pictures as things were starting off:

TBNA Ice Cream Social

The Tatesbrook Neighborhood Association will be having their annual Ice Cream Social on June 21st in the church parking lot from 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon.

The TBNA will be providing more details about the ice cream and some special appearances from the city fire department and/or police department, but the church is in charge of games and some shelter for the hot sun for the ice cream.

So, Mike, dig out the rules for the running amoeba and we'll combine that with a little ultimate frisbee and basketball. If anyone has a small canopy for the ice cream and the servers, please contact Kevin.

This is a great opportunity for fun and fellowship with the community.

BCM Mystery Dinner for Summer Missions

A few BCM students ( including our very own Ashlyn Bruce ) will be heading for the Dominican Republic to help villages install, use and maintain a water purification system and teach them what to do with clean water.

Although Ashlyn has already raised all of her support, the dinner theater is still a great activity for all of the couples at Tatesbrook attend in support of Ashlyn and Amber's production that will benefit summer missions.

To encourage greater participation by the body in support of the dinner theater, any couple that enables another couple to go by babysitting the opposite night will have their tickets paid for.. a savings of $35 ( plus "free" babysitting )... on Valentine's weekend!
