The Other Bob!
In Classic Christianity, Bob shows us the way back to the life Jesus provided for us when He set us free from the bondage of the law, teaching us to live in the newness of life led by His Spirit. He answers vital questions such as:
- What does it mean to have Christ living in me?
- How can I experience the joy of the Lord daily?
- If I'm a new creation, why do I still struggle with sin?

SPICC American Samoa Update
Thank you to all those who helped with school supplies for the SPICC school children who lost everything they had in the tsunami. Here is a message from our friend Debbie who is a teacher at the school:
"Words cannot express adequately our thanks to you for all the things that you've sent for the kids that have lost everything. We received your love gift today, and Moni & I went right to work; we packed a backpack per kid and evenly distributed the supplies and clothes so that when they come to school on Monday, we can just hand each one a backpack."
"We couldn't believe how much you sent. Your love for the Lord and our ministry here in Fatumafuti is moving ... I can barely put it together. Thank you so much!!! I'm sure Rev. Fa'atui & Mrs. Peta will want to write and thank you themselves, but I couldn't wait."
Thank you again and God bless you for your obedience.

School Supplies - Aide for American Samoa
Dear Tatesbrook Family,
In 2000 I spent the summer working in American Samoa as a summer missionary. I worked with the Laolagi family who started the South Pacific International Christian Center, a Christian school for grades K-8. American Samoa has a deeply religious culture and a heavy Mormon influence. Through this school, young Samoan children are obtaining an advanced education and learning about relationship with Christ. I could go on and on about how God is working through this family to bring the LIGHT to a dark nation. However, as you know, there was a catastrophic earthquake and tsumani in Samoa and American Samoa this week.
I have been in touch with the Laolagi's and the school was spared any damage. That is a blessing. However, many of their students lived in villages around Pago Pago that were hit hard - some of these students have lost loved ones, all their earthly belongings, etc. I know this is short notice, but we would like to send some much needed help to SPICC in the form of school supplies that they can distribute to these children. This is a simple, inexpensive and practical way to share Christ for these children and their families.
If you would like to help, please bring in some school supplies on Sunday. Travis and I are leaving this week, so we need to get everything shipped out by Tuesday at the latest. I've requested a specific list from the Laolagi family of what supplies are needed, but I'm sure they would appreciate anything. There were about 30 students affected by the tsunami who are in the most need.
Some supplies to consider:
Pencils
Paper
Notebooks
Rulers
Crayons
Binders
Backpacks
Pencil cases
Chalk
Personal supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.)
TALOFA (Thank you) so much for your help!

What is the enemy saying to you about rest? As we enter the week with Sabbath Rest on our minds, be aware of what the enemy is telling you about how to get there.
When I first heard about Sabbath Rest, I was amazed. I said “Yes, God. That is it! That is what I am looking for. That is where I want to be.” But then the enemy stepped in with the simple question “What do I need to do to get there?” It was a subtle lie and it made common sense that if rest was a “place,” I would need to get there somehow. I bought it hook, line and sinker and I basically told God to sit back and watch me go. Sabbath rest here I come!
A few weeks later, frustrated, sick of jumping hoops and tired from staying up later to get a few extra minutes of Bible study; I stopped. I literally sat down and said “God, I don’t understand. What is this rest?” His simple truth that freed me from the darkness, “Why would I make you work to rest?” I laughed out loud when I realized the irony of trying my hardest to enter rest. The very nature of rest is ceasing our own works (Heb 4:10). It was a classic Galatians 3 scenario. What I had started in the Spirit I was trying to perfect in the flesh.
As God gives us opportunity this week to live in rest, please do not let the enemy set you on the wrong road. Don’t buy the lie that you need to work to get there. Rather, proclaim the truth of Hebrews 4:3, “for those of us who have believed enter that rest.” Be “diligent,” not in action but in attitude, belief, and zealousness that you are already there. Sabbath rest remains not for us to find but for us to realize that we are in (Eph 1:3, 2 Pet 1:3). It remains for us to live and experience. It remains for Galatians 2:20 to be walked out, where we no longer live but we let Christ live through us. That is Sabbath Rest.

Desert Song (Hillsong)
I thought I would share a praise song that I have been gleaning encouragement from lately. Hopefully, you'll be blessed in knowing that in every season of your life and our church life God is still God and He gives us reason to sing. I include the lyrics below the video because Kresta says she has a hard time understanding all they sing.
Verse 1:
This is my prayer in the desert
And all that's within me feels dry
This is my prayer in the hunger in me
My God is a God who provides
Verse 2:
And this is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved
Of more worth than gold
So refine me Lord through the flames
Chorus:
And I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon forged against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here
Verse 3:
And this is my prayer in the battle
And triumph is still on it's way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I'll stand
Bridge:
All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
Verse 4:
This is my prayer in the harvest
When favor and providence flow
I know I'm filled to be empited again
The seed I've recieved I will sow

Prayer request from DonnaMarie
She has been having foot pain for over 4 years and it has been misdiagnosed as arthritis. Finally, a doctor has discovered that she has a flat foot disorder. He has prescribed her to be in a large boot cast one foot at a time until they can get the problem fixed. This means at least 1 year (6 months on each foot) and he has put her on bed rest. yes, this means for an entire year she has to stay off her feet at almost all times. She goes to the doctor Monday where he is going to check on her cast. Here’s is what she is requesting prayer for:
- Perseverance. She is stir -crazy not being able to do things for herself. She is tired of not being self-sufficient. She wants to be able to do her job instead of other people having to do it for her. Pray for grace to accept the help and the ability to gracefully be still.
- The pain has been exhausting for her. She has pain medicine but if she takes it, it prevents her from being able to drive. So she has to wait until she gets home from work. Then it wipes her out for the evening. Pray for her to find a way to make it through the pain.
DonnaMarie hasn’t been able to come to church. She can’t make it up the stairs and there is no hang railing on the ramp going up the front part of the church. I have told her to call me when she gets there and I will find 2 strapping young (or not so young) lads who can help her get into the church. So be prepared to help her Sunday AMs so she can come back to joining us in corporate worship on Sunday mornings. Also, as the Lord leads, contact DonnaMarie and see how you can help her! Even the little things can’t get done when you can’t get out and about!
THANKS!! Dacian Keaton

Church Picnic
We will be having a church picnic this Sunday. We took the church picture at the last picnic, but if there is enough interest we might be able to take another one that includes Michael, Joe Joe and Sawyer. Since the Hind's will be camping, we will need a volunteer to substitute as the church photographer.

How important are you really? On a scale of 1 to 10 how great are you in the economy of God? Feel like a Zero? Maybe a 5 at best? Just don't know? Let's take a look at scripture to find out just how great Christ has made us.
Hebrews chapter 11 gives us a list of some pretty incredible people. Men of faith, women of God, individuals that you really look forward to meeting in heaven. These were individuals who through faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouth of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war and put armies to flight. They endured mockings, scourgings, chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, beaten, and sawn in two. These were individuals of whom the world was not worthy (Heb 11:33-38). Even though they were a part of mighty acts and incredible miracles none of their actions gave them a right standing with God. All of them gained approval through faith alone (Heb 11:39), and only by the faith in Him who justifies the ungodly were they credited as righteous (Rom 4:5).
Considering all of them, and every single person ever born of a woman, Jesus said none of them were greater than John the Baptist (Luke7:28). None of those mentioned in Hebrews 11 or anyone else born of a woman from all history past surpassed John. That was a pretty big statement coming from Jesus. John was the man! Granted He did not say they were less. He only said that they were not greater. However, the most amazing part of the statement came next. Jesus continued to say, "yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he (Luke 7:28)." Whoa...
That's you! He is talking about you. When you accepted Christ, He rescued you from the domain of darkness and transferred you to the kingdom of God (Col 1:13). Christ says that you are greater than John the Baptist! Wow. Even more amazing, Christ says that you are greater than Abraham! Whoa... Did you realize that in God's economy, the only reality, that you were greater than King David? Whoa... Greater than Moses! Wow! Solomon, Sarah, Samuel, Samson, Daniel, people whom the world was not worthy of, Christ says you are greater!
It does not seem right but it is true. They all were born only of a woman but we are born of the Spirit (John 3:5). We can and do experience daily, things about which they only dreamed. We have a peace with the Creator for which they longed (Rom 5:1). We are permanently indwelled by the Spirit of God giving us a closeness and intimacy that they never even imagined was possible! Let us not take for granted what so many died looking forward to. You are great because Christ has made you great. Let the truth dictate your feelings, know who you are in Christ, live life abundantly and praise Him!

2009 Women's Retreat @ Agape Wilderness Retreat
I pray you are living richly in Him and enjoying the joy of Christ in your hearts.
I have some details about the women's retreat. Due to the higher cost of our luxorious women's retreat (compared the the stinky men's retreat), I wanted to give you ample time to begin setting aside some moula for the event.
Mark out Friday October 23rd through Sunday October 25th.
I will work on getting departure and arrival times to you as we get closer.
2 nights at the retreat center with teaching & fellowship including all your meals = $130
A 60 hour get away with no screaming children, dishes to clean, meals to make, shelves to dust, laundry to fold, work to do or lawns to mow = PRICELESS!!!
Hope to see you there!!
We are just a little over 3 months away from our annual retreat. Please keep the following things in your prayers as we prepare:
- For the Lord to rise up leaders for teaching, worship and serendipity activities.
- For the Lord to sanctify our time together and call us according to His purposes.
- For a hedge over our lives as women and anything that could prevent us from being able to go and enjoy one another (sick family members, jobs etc.)
Dacian Keaton has volunteered to cordinate this year's retreat. Feel free to reach me at daciankeaton@hotmail.com or 859-881-5160
Mor info to come!!
PS, I need to know ASAP if you have any dietary restrictions including diabeties or allergies.

Pictures from Africa
Pictures are great for the website, but the lessons that they shared were largely about relationships and what is important.
- One traveler confessed apathy in the great commission and great commandment.
- One traveler recognized that they were on a daily tread mill.
- One traveler realized that life is short and out of our control.
We all are very blessed to know these three travelers. I am eager to hear from the other three.

However, we still have no pictures of the Six Drips. Parents, spouses, youth groups, brothers and sisters all await the pictures of the Six Drips in Tanzania... We can only assume that their time ministering there is an answer to our prayers.

Ladies Fellowship Memorial Day weekend
Michelle Jones and Dacian Keaton will be hosting a ladies fellowship up at the church Sunday May 24th from 6 pm - ??? in the fellowship hall. This is a chance for the women to get together and enjoy each other. The theme for the night is paper crafting: including scrapbooking & card making. Please don't feel like you have to be an avid scrapbooker to join us!
Dacian will be teaching how to make 10 cards from 3 peices of paper. Then we can exchange cards so we all have a little bit of all kinds (symphaty, thankyou, b-day, etc). She will provide all the supplies you need to make the cards (but it would be helpful if you stopped by Hobby Lobby or Micheal's and picked up some card sized paper beforehand.)
There will also be people around to teach some basic scrapbooking technique. So if you have some photos you'd like to preserve, bring them with you!
If you have materials, please bring your scissors, cutters, paper, stamps and embellishments to share with the group. Be sure to put your name on all your stuff so it gets back to you at the end of the night.
If you are new to paper crafting, no worries! Just show up and you can use our stuff to make a few cards to send. We just want to fellowship together and enjoy one another. Even if you aren't going to sit and work on anything, stop by and enjoy a snack with us! We'll have some praise music playing and some games out on tables for those who aren't "into the whole scrapbooking thing."
Bring a 2-liter & a snack or dish to share with the group.
Please RSVP with Dacian at 859-881-5160 or daciankeaton@hotmail.com
OR with Michelle Jones at 85-223-8731 or abbas_girl@insightbb.com so we know how many tables to set up.
Also, if you would be willing to come a little early and help set up, please let us know that too!
Many blessings!

Six Drips from the Brook
When I got home, I found this email from Tracy letting us all know a little more about the plans for the six drips to split up three by three. Please keep them in your prayers.
Our prayers tonight were that God would be glorified no matter who was ministering to who in Tanzania. I was excited, but not surprised to learn from Tracy's email that the whole team will be meeting with locals for discipleship and encouragement.
And remember, when assembled with other drips, a brook can become a river which can become a waterfall at the edge of a cliff.
Here's the day to day schedule:
- Tomorrow and Wednesday Evan, Josh, and I are going up into the mountains to teach Bible stories to children and play games with them and the girls are staying here in town to learn African things.
- Thursday we are prayerwalking.
- Friday we're going to Maasai land to prayerwalk and help start up a new ministry with local missionaries
- Saturday we relax
- Sunday we're going to a Maasai Church
- Monday we drive to Mngazi to do health teaching, watch Jesus film, AIDS video (This is easily the biggest day of our trip and really need prayer. This visit has been a long time coming for these people)
- Tuesday we will travel back from Mngazi.
- Wednesday we pack and visit town.
- Thursday we go on Safari.
- Friday we head back to Dar Es Salaam.

I have pondered on this phrase for a while now. What does it mean to "take up your cross?" It has become a buzz phrase in conversation and a call of urgency in sermons but what is it? I am still not completely sure so pardon me while I ponder some more.
The most common answer that I think I have heard is "To take up your cross means that we need to die to ourselves daily." I would propose that this is as vague as "take up your cross." How do you die to yourself? What scriptures show me the way? I think there are none because you cannot die to yourself daily. The truth is that you have already died once, for all time, never to die again and it is no longer you who live but Christ who lives in and through you. To place a "die to yourself" requirement on the daily walk of a believer is to place a Christ sized sacrificial works based acceptance on that walk. It cannot be done and should not be tried.
So we are back to the beginning. If you read the whole section it makes a little more sense. It seems that the call to "take up your cross" maybe a call to salvation because it is followed by "whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake, he is the one who will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world but to lose his own soul." Still, how does "daily" fit into that?
I then received an email from an acquaintance that I think pulls the phrase back into right meaning:
- "the phrase concerning “taking up your cross” was idiomatic to identify with His rejection. It is not a verse dealing with salvation but it is dealing with discipleship and therefore to be a true disciple of Jesus one needs to identify with His rejection and be willing to be rejected himself and that is what it means to take up the cross and to do so daily and be willing to suffer rejection as He was rejected. Jesus was officially rejected by Israel’s leaders in Matthew 12 and therefore to be a true disciple you must identify yourself with that rejection and follow Him in spite of that rejection by the larger Jewish community."
Maybe we can blame it on our Western "what works for you is fine" culture, but I had never even considered rejection by family and or community as an issue. The more I thought about it though the more I realized how this is a huge factor. It was a huge issue with the international students we worked with in Hawaii, it is a huge issue with Jewish believers, it is an issue with my own extended family, and it is an issue with many people in our body concerning our community. Who wants to be rejected? That sucks. However the alternative, being ashamed of Jesus, sucks even more.
Dear Saint, we have nothing to be ashamed of. We only have a life to be amazed of. A story that is incredible. And a personal relationship with the God of the universe that is nothing short of incredibly, amazingly, outstandingly, beautifully wonderful. Enjoy Him.

Lessons on Unforgiveness: a Personal Testimony on the Power of Forgiving
I began praying specifically that the Lord would come in and clean out the cobwebs that were causing such inability to serve Him. I asked for every nook and cranny of my heart to be wiped clean, for God to bring the darkness into light, and for my heart to be cleansed from anything that wasn’t from Christ. Little did I know just what I was asking. The next several months were very painful, but proved to be very rewarding. He led me to a book that I want to share with the body in light of what He has been teaching us through Mike on Sunday mornings.
“Many Christians I deal with [have] their minds filled with such confusion that their daily walk with Christ is unfulfilling and unproductive. When they try to pray, they begin thinking about a million other things they should be doing. When they sit down to read the Bible or a good Christian book, they can’t concentrate, or they read for several minutes and suddenly realize that their thoughts have been a million miles away. When they have an opportunity to serve the Lord in some way, they are brought up short by discouraging thoughts of self-doubt: ‘I’m not a strong enough Christian’; ‘I don’t know enough about the Bible’; ‘I’m still plagued by sinful thoughts’; ‘I don’t have many spiritual gifts.’ Instead of being victorious, productive, joy-filled Christians, they trudge through life under a cloud just trying to hang on until Jesus comes.” - Neil Anderson
The Bondage Breaker (pg. 18)
“I would estimate that only about 15% of the evangelical Christian community is living a free and productive life in Christ. These believers know who they are in Christ, they have meaningful devotions, and they are bearing fruit. How tragic! Being alive and free in Christ is the birthright of EVERY child of God. We don’t have to live a carnal life- we can live a liberated life in Christ.”
- Neil Anderson
The Bondage Breaker (pg. 120)
The above quotes are from one of the most influential books I have ever read. The Bondage Breaker, written by Neil T. Anderson, proved to be the catalyst God used to answer my prayers for cleansing and renewal. He began to reveal truth about spiritual strongholds that were eating me from the inside out. Every area of my life was being affected by SIN. Yes, these were sins I had committed in life. But they weren’t necessarily all sins that I had committed, but rather sins that had been committed over or upon me throughout my life. I was carrying around bitterness and unforgiveness toward things people had done with good or bad intentions that hurt me.
In Revelation 12:10, it tells us that Satan is the accuser of the brethren. It’s amazing how I was allowing myself to be accused when I was really a victorious Child of the Living God. “We have all heard his lying, hateful voice in our hearts and consciences. He never seems to let up on us. Many Christians are perpetually discouraged and defeated because they believe his persistent lies about them. And those who give in to his accusations end up being robbed of the freedom that God intends His people to enjoy (pg. 152).” “But Satan is not your judge; he is merely your accuser. Yet if you listen to him and believe him, you will begin to live out these accusations as if they were a sentence you must serve (pg. 154).” Satan used very familiar voices to accuse me, and I just laid there and took it. My own voice was the most frequent; always in first person singular so I thought it was my own. He even used the voices of those I loved the most (mostly voices of times when I was hurt by something as a child).
After reading The Bondage Breaker, I learned some vital lessons on what forgiveness is and what it isn’t. I have posted them below so you can chew on them as well. I began the road to recovery over bitterness and the spirit of unforgiveness. My testimony is this: I was the person Neil Anderson describes in the top quotation, living a less than a fruitful and abundant life yet so desiring the fullness of Christ. After this journey of allowing Christ into the inner parts of my heart, which was often times painful and humbling, He delivered me so far from those thoughts. I don’t even remember what they were without going back and reading the journals I kept during that time. Not only were the thoughts gone, but even the very remembrance of them was gone. Now that is FREEDOM!! So is the power of the blood of Christ!! If you find yourself relating to the description Neil gives above, please prayerfully read the lessons on forgiveness written below. For more information on deliveranve from irrational thoughts, negative feelings and habitual sins, pick up a copy of The Bondage Breaker at your local bookstore. You'll be glad you did.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful! Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” Colossians 3:15-16
1. Forgiveness is not forgetting:
People who want to forget all that was done to them will find they cannot do it. Don’t put off forgiving those who have hurt you, hoping the pain will one day go away. Once you choose to forgive someone, THEN Christ can come and begin to heal you of your hurts. But the healing cannot begin until you first forgive.
2. Forgiveness is a choice, a decision of the will:
Since God requires you to forgive, it is something you can do. Sometimes it is very hard because we want revenge for the things we have suffered. But we are told by God not to take our own revenge. Let God deal with the person. As long as you don’t forgive that person, you will remain hooked to them and they will have power over you. You will remain chained to your past and bound up in bitterness. When you forgive, you let them off your hook, but they remain on God’s hook. God will deal with them in His time. Jesus knows how much that person hurt you and He will help you forgive them.
3. Forgive others for your sake so you can be free:
Forgiveness is mainly a matter of obedience to God. God wants you to be free; there is no other way.
4. Forgiveness is agreeing to live with the consequences of another person’s sin:
You are going to live with those consequences anyway whether you like it or not, so the only choice you have is whether you will do so in the bondage of bitterness or in the freedom of forgiveness. No one truly forgives without accepting and suffering the pain of another person’s sin. That can seem unfair and you may wonder where the justice is in it, but justice is found at the cross, which makes forgiveness legally and morally right. Jesus took the “eternal” consequences of sin. We only have to suffer the “temporary” consequences of their sin.
5. Do not wait for the other person to ask for forgiveness:
Remember, Jesus did not wait for those who were crucifying Him to apologize before He forgave them. Even while they jeered and mocked him, He prayed for their forgiveness.
6. Forgive from your heart:
Allow God to bring to the surface the painful emotions you feel towards those who’ve hurt you. Let God bring them to the surface so He can heal them and complete the forgiveness.
7. Forgiveness is choosing not to hold someone’s sin against him/her any more:
It is common for bitter people to bring up past issues over and over to them who have hurt them. This doesn’t mean you have to put up with the future sins of others. You can take a stand against them.
8. Don’t wait until you feel like forgiving:
You will never get there. Make the hard choice to forgive even if you don’t feel like it. Once you choose to forgive, Satan will have lost his power over you in that area! Then God’s healing touch will be free to move. Freedom is what you will gain right now, not necessarily an immediate change in feelings.
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Eph. 4:31-32
Prayer Activity:
Pray this: “Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the riches of your kindness, forbearance, and patience toward me, knowing that your kindness has led me to repentance. I confess that I have not shown that same kindness and patience toward those who have hurt me. Instead, I have held onto my anger, bitterness and resentment toward them. Please bring to my mind all the people I need to forgive in order that I may do so now. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

PRAYING EFFECTIVELY FOR THE LOST
We are blessed and very much so. This week we have Bro. Lee Thomas, author of "Praying Effectively for the Lost" leading in a prayer seminar at the Brook. (Monday March 16 at 7PM) This is one of the many opportunities we have as a body to stand in the gap on behalf of the Tatesbrook Neighborhood and Lexington. We will also have another prayer/praise night in April as well as a prayer walk around our neighborhood.
Please encourage others in our body to participate in these times of prayer. I also would like the small groups that meet during the week to take time and pray for the neighborhood. We also need some of you who are not a part of a home group to consider being a part of a group by opening your home or coming to the church building on a night to help us prepare places of fellowship, ministry, and teaching to those who will come to us through the Crusade.
Remember to set aside April 23 -29 for our Crusade. This will need to be a church- wide effort, and we will need workers to help set up, provide food, ministry, parking, ushering etc.
Thank you for your heart of service and desire to honor our Lord
